Enhancing Connectivity at Sea: Koyo Kaiun Group's Starlink Installation Initiative

We are in the process of equipping all ocean-going vessels owned by the Koyo Kaiun Group with Starlink satellite communication services. By the end of fiscal year 2025, we plan to have approximately 10 vessels outfitted with this system.

Starlink leverages a network of small satellites in low Earth orbit to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity. Trials conducted on several of our vessels demonstrated significant improvements, with communication speeds increasing by up to 50 times. This enhancement allows seafarers to engage in video calls with family and enjoy streaming videos—capabilities that were previously challenging. Recognizing the positive impact on seafarers’ wellbeing, we have decided to fully implement the system across our managed fleet.

The Koyo Kaiun Group remains dedicated to enhancing the quality of life onboard by introducing advanced satellite communication services. These improvements bridge the gap in connectivity between sea and land. Looking ahead, we aim to drive the digital transformation (DX) of maritime operations by enabling real-time information sharing between vessels and shore, optimizing operational efficiency, and providing comprehensive support in case of onboard issues.
